Bethel Middle School Library Learning Commons

Summer reading 2023: We are fortunate to have a great partnership with the Bethel Public Library. This summer, students are encouraged to participate in the fun programs and challenges that the BPL will be offering. On June 6th, a representative from the BPL will be coming to tell students about all that they have to offer this summer. What is the summer reading requirement for BMS students? Our incoming sixth graders and rising seventh and eighth graders are all required to read at least ONE book this summer. What book should you read? Well, that is totally up to you! It is completely free choice! We just want you reading! We encourage you to read more than one book, but you are only required to read ONE book. We would like you to read a book that is appropriate to your age and reading level- nothing too easy. This is a great time to grow as a reader.

You can check out a summer reading book from the Bethel Public Library or you can purchase one from our great local book stores like Byrd's Books or Rainy Day Paperback Exchange. All three of these locations are in downtown Bethel.

If you feel stuck on how to pick a book, you can search the BMS Destiny catalog for books, and then see if you can get it at one of these locations. All books in the Destiny catalog tell you if it is a middle grades level book or a young adult level book. Always pick a book that meets the standards of your household.

We are also offering an OPTIONAL reading challenge! If you read eight books or more, you will be entered into a raffle to win a few great gift cards to local businesses. You just need to complete this very brief reading log attached here and give it to Mrs. Chamberlain or Mrs. Egan the first week of school. There is no work involved, don't worry! More info on the flyer below!

How can the BMS LLC help you?

We provide much more than book checkouts! We are your headquarters for all things chromebook as well. You will receive your chromebook from us, and come to us when your chromebook needs help. We will try to help you fix the issue, and if we can't: we will fill out a technology department help ticket.

Speaking of book checkouts- let's go over some library policy!

For 2022-2023: Library visits are back! Your ELA teacher will bring you for class checkouts. In addition, you can stop in during morning passing time or Tiger Two to check out a book- just get permission from your Tiger Two teacher first! Another option is to use our Student Book Request Form.  Then we deliver it on a cart to your Tiger Two room.
