BMS Student Supports

Respect & Responsibility

At BMS students are taught to live the Tiger Two: Respect & Responsibility.

The following are some of the examples we use to teach and support students in living by the Tiger Two:

  • No Place for Hate-No Place for Hate is a student-led program that connects the school community and fosters student leadership, while developing a greater respect for differences.

  • Partnerships: BMS also partners with Sandy Hook Promise, Center of Empowerment, Bethel Community Cares Program, and Family Child Aid.

  • PBIS- BMS is a banner school for PBIS and uses various aspects of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) model to build school community and increase academic achievement.

  • PPS and Special Services

  • Restorative Practices- BMS uses the Restorative Practice approach to build community and resolve conflicts through repairing the harm in the community.

  • RULER- RULER for Middle School (grades 6 – 8) aims to contextualize students’ understanding of emotions and emotional intelligence within their understanding of the real world: personally, at school, in their communities, and in the world at large. (https://ruler.online/login)

  • Say Something- The SAY SOMETHING presentation, offered through the Sandy Hook Promise, empowers K-12 students to recognize the warning signs of someone at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to say something to a trusted adult to get help. As well as offers ways students can grow a community of Upstanders. For more information visit: https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/our-programs/say-something/.

  • School Based Health Center

  • S.O.S-Signs of Suicide is an age appropriate training for students that teaches youth how to identify, intervene and get help for youth who may be depressed or suicidal. SOS is an evidence-based program that has demonstrated an improvement in students’ knowledge and adaptive attitudes about suicide risk and depression, as well as a reduction in actual suicide attempts.

  • Tiger Two Time- Tiger Two class is a dedicated time that supports building community and growth in emotional intelligence.
